Angelfall (Penryn & the End of Days, #1)

Angelfall (Penryn & the End of Days, #1) - Susan Ee Oh, hell no. No. Hell. No. Noooooo...

I hate it when this happens. It's not a good book, but I want to get the next one in the series just to find out what is going to happen. I hate this. Not being able to foresee the ending because the finish of the first installment gives you NOTHING!!!

Deep breath.

I just finished it two minutes ago. I'm not in my best state of mind.

fuckfuckshitfuck.

Ok, the bad things. The writing is almost primitive. Cave paintings are more expressive than this. It's like telling your boyfriend you love him with hand sings. It's so primitive if you'd read it to a child he'd ask you what's wrong with you. It's dumb. And it really takes away from the story. A lot. For example in the fight scenes - those are quite nice in this book - the author used language along these lines: "I was fighting. I sliced him in half. I sliced the halves in half again. Blood spurted. It was red. It smelled like copper. The sun was setting. I'm actually illiterate." Whaaaat?!

Another bad thing - the author repeats words a lot. For example: "The sun was burning really hot. Because the sun was burning really hot, I was sweating. My sweat was then dried by the sun, who was burning really hot."

I think the vast majority of bad things about this book is in the writing. The story is not bad. It's YA, so it has the young warrior-type girl and her love for a creature of another world. Not just any creature, an angel. And not just any angel, but the archangel Rafael. Why didn't Susan Ee go directly for God? She could've done that..

Good things - pacing. Action scenes. Plotting. Schemes. Rafael's body. Uhm... Rafael's body. Did I say that already? Whoops, sorry.

Do they get back together? The scene when he left her on the pavement, with the bat wings spread behind him, and took off broke my heart. Few pages later, he flies over their heads. I'm. Such. A. Pussy.

They do get back together, right?
