I was amazed at how good Golden can simulate a biography, all the details, the language Sayuri had to use to always remember that she is telling a story at the moment, not that you are being told one by someone else.

It is a beautiful story of a girl named Sayuri, from since she was a little girl in a small village in Japan, up to when she has become a full grown woman....
